John Harrison was born in Derbyshire, England.

John Henry Harrison was born on 21 Jun 1842 in Derby, Derbyshire ^[1]. His parents were Joshua Harrison and Mary (Pegg) Harrison.

In the 30 Mar 1851 Census John was living at Abbey Street, St Werburghs, Derby, Derbyshire. ^[2]

In the 7 Apr 1861 Census John was living at Mount Street, St Werburgh, Derby, Derbyshire. ^[3]

In the 2 Apr 1871 Census John was living at Back of Sitwell Street, St Peter, Derby, Derbyshire. ^[4]

John married Martha King on 25 Jan 1874 in Derby, Derbyshire. The entry shows that John was aged 31, a bachelor, a fitter, his father Joshua Harrison was a manufacturer. Martha was aged 28, a spinster, her father James King was a Bootmaker. They both signed their names the ceremony was perfprmed by Thomas Berry the vicar and witnessed by Frederick Harrison and Sam Fox. ^[5]

John and Martha had a daughter Martie Eliza Mary Harrison before 25 Jun 1876 in Shardlow, Derbyshire, Martie was baptised in Slaugham, Sussex on 25 Jun 1876. The baptism entry shows that the family were living in Derby and John Henry was a Grocer.^[6].^[7]

John and Martha had a daughter Fanny Matilda Jane Harrison before 31 Jul 1877 in Derby, Derbyshire as Fanny was baptised on that date. ^[8][9]

John and Matilda and the family moved to Sussex before 1879

John and Matilda had a daughter Avis Lettice Harrison before 30 Mar 1879 in Slaugham, Sussex. Avis was baptised on 30 Mar 1879 in Slaugham, Sussex.The baptism record shows that the family were living in Slaugham and John Henry was a manager?^[10][11]

In the 3 Apr 1881 Census John (now using the name of Henry) was living at 96, Upper Lewes Road, Brighton, Sussex. ^[12]

It seems as if John Henry and his wife Martha split before 1991 or John Henry passed away, and no further records can be found for John.

Research Notes

In the 5 Apr 1891 Census John Henry is not present at the family home, but his wife and children are living at Upper North Street, Brighton, Sussex.^[13]
