Biography

Erastus S. Haston was born on 9 April 1875^[1] in Tennessee;^[2] he was the son of George W. Haston and Sarah A. Shockley.^[2]

In 1880,^[2] Erastus Haston (age 5, born Tennessee) was living in Van Buren County, Tennessee in the household of his father, George Haston (age 25, born Tennessee), with his mother, Sarah Haston (age 22, born Tennessee), with his Haston siblings, born Tennessee (age, sex): ii) Earnest (3, M), iii) Samuel (1, M). George's occupation was a farmer.

About 1897,^[3] Erastus Haston married Cleo Brady. The marriage date is estimated based on the 1900 federal census that recorded that they had then been married for 3 years.

On 1 Jun 1900,^[3] Erastus Haston (age 25, born Oct 1874 in Tennessee) was living in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee with his wife of 3 years, Cleo Haston (age 24, born May 1876 in Tennessee); both were boarders in the household of Hattie S. On 26 Oct 1900,^[4] Erastus Haston's wife, Cleo B. Haston, died, and she was buried in the Hodges Cemetery, Cummingsville, Van Buren County, Tennessee, USA.

On 12 Sep 1918 in Fresno, California,^[1] Erastus Haston (age 43) registered for the World War I Draft. Erastus was born on 9 Apr 1875. He was currently residing at 2123 Santa Clara Street, Fresno, California. His occupation was a laborer with Comsumers Ice Company, 702 P Street, Fresno, California. Erastus S. Haston died on 20 Apr 1919, and he was buried in the Haston Cemetery, Van Buren County, Tennessee, USA. ^[5]

Research Notes

• Cleo B. Haston - Cleo B. Haston appears to have been double counted in the 1900 federal census; once with her husband^[3] and once with her father, Hugh J. Brady.^[6]

• Hugh Haston - in Erastus' 1918 WWI Draft registration,^[1] he lists his nearest relative as Hugh Haston, who resided in Spencer, Van Buren County, Tennessee. This may have been his son and only child with Cleo (Brady) Haston. Hugh B. Haston was born on 22 Aug 1900 in Tennessee, and in 1917 was living in Van Buren County, Tennessee.
