Biography
Edith was born in Canada at "Niagara on the lake" Prov. Ontario. Edith and Dewey were married 28 Aug 1918 at "Rev. D. Y. Donaldson's summer camp, Brooms Grove, Emporia, Kansas." [1]
Edith re-married after Dewey's death in 1952, to Don Farnsworth. [2]
Her Social Security Application, dated 8 Apr 1953, shows Edith Jones' employer as Newman Memorial Co. Hospital, 12th & Chestnut, Emporia, Kans.
Because her brother Richard did not have children and his wife had already passed, upon his death in 1963 Edith inherited his trucking business and kept it going for a few years. I recall my mother and sister going to Kansas to sell the business and bring Edith to live with us. That was about 1962-1963. [3]
The competition was stiff for a woman owner of a trucking company and I remember my mother telling me that the drivers began to sabotage the trucks and keeping up with the repairs and maintenance was more than Edith could manage. They drove her out of business (no pun intended). [4]
The gravestone shared with Dewey has a birth date but on the 2015 photo there is no death date. [5]
