Thomas was born in 1748 in Washington County, Rhode Island, USA. He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Wightman Havens.

Thomas married Mary Smith (1753–1833). They had three children: Susannah (Havens) Maker (listed); and Joseph Havens (1773–1856) along with Benjamin Havens (1779–1863) (not listed).

Thomas served as a Private with the Continental Line of the Revolutionary War, according to grave stone shown on source given.

Thomas Havens passed away in 10 Nov 1820 while residing in Benton, Yates, New York, United States.
