Biography

She was born about 1803 in Northwest Territories to uncertain parents and was supposed to be a Blackfoot Indian halfbreed.

Robina "Bennie" Venus Hay married on 28 Oct 1822 at St.Johns Mission House in Red River Settlement to William Bird (c1802-1885). [1] [2]

She was baptized as Venus HAY on 05 Jun 1823 at Red River Colony. [3] [4] [5]

She passed away about 1864 at High Bluff, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba

Two of her children referred to her as Metis.
In his scrip, her son Nicholas, named his mother as Beney Hays.
Her daughter Mary Smith, named her mother as Venus. [6]

Canada was formed by confederation on 01 July 1867.

One unsourced suggestion is that this profile may be the daughter of Martha (Perrin) and Joseph Grant HAY. [8]

Another unsourced suggestion is that this profile was the daughter of Mary (Muskegon - Cree Indian) and James Monkman (1775-1865) [9] who witnessed this profile's marriage to BIRD. However also witnessed a number of other events at the Red River Colony.
