Ann was born about 1805. She is the daughter of James Hayden and his common-law wife Jane Kane. It is presumed from the records that on the death of her (Anglican) father, James Hayden (d. 20 Sep 1820), her mother Jane took herself and several of her children (including Ann)[1] to be baptised at St Mary's (Roman Catholic) Cathedral in Sydney. This would have formalised their relationship to James, and assisted his widow assertng herself as Mrs Jane Hayden with inheritance rights for herself and/or their children to James's grant of land at Campbelltown NSW.
Ann was the first wife of former convict George Simpson from 1821[2] until her death in 1841. [3]
She is buried in St Peter’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia.[4]
