HAYDEN An esteemed townsman, Mr. Walter Hayden, of 276 Henry Street, Penrith, died in Nepean District Hospital on Monday, April 27, at the age of 67 years. About three years ago Mr. Hayden underwent an operation in Prince Alfred Hospital, and for about the last twelve years of his life had been off work. He was born at Drummoyne and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hayden. He lived there for some years and was married in Gladesville Church of England to Phoebe Carlton who survives him. He was particularly adept at concrete work, and a job of this nature that he, with the late Mr. Jim Buckley and others, did very effectively was the drive-way into the front grounds of Nepean District Hospital. He took a pride in that type of work and results stand to his credit. In recent years Mr. Hayden had been engaged in concrete construction on the new railway platforms for electrification between Parramatta and Penrith. His good workmanship was also applied in concrete drainage in Penrith and concrete work at Penrith. Weir. In addition to his wife, he leaves the undermentioned sons and daughters—William, Queenie (Mrs. W. Jones, of Auburn), Robert (Penrith), Joyce (Mrs. J,Darlington (Kingswood), Raymond (Toongabbie), Jean (Mrs. W. Stark, Queensland), and Kenneth. There are eleven grandchildren. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, April 28, when a service was held in the funeral parlours in High Street, being conducted by the Rector, the Rev. A. E.. Hodgson, who also officiated at. the graveside in the C. of E. portion of Penrith general cemetery.
