Emma was born about 1850. She is the daughter of Thomas Head and Elizabeth Pryor. She passed away in 1923.[1] She is buried at the Emerald Cemetery, Queensland.[2]
Emma arrived in Australia with her parents Thomas, 35 and Elizabeth 31 on the Genghis Khan on 19 Aug 1854. Thomas was a farm labourer from County Hertford. With them they had two children, William 8 and Emma 4. [3]
In 1869, Emma married John Hicks.[4] At the time of their Marriage, John, aged 24 and born at Morphet, New South Wales to John Hicks, also a labourer and Harriet Hawkins, was living at Seven Mile Creek a locality near Ipswich in Queensland. Emma, then 19 and needing her parents consent to marry, was born in Orwell, Cambridgeshire, England the daughter of Thomas Head, a farmer and Elizbeth Pryor (sic). She was also residing at Seven Mile Creek at the time.[5] The witnesses to the marriage were John Budd and Sally Moore. Emma and John had sixteen children.
