Biography

Thomas Wilson Heath was born^[1] on Wednesday, 20th April 1842, the son of John Heath and Hannah Wilson (Clarkson) Heath, in New South Wales, Australia. Thomas was baptised^[2] on Monday, 23rd May 1842, at St Luke's Church of England, Liverpool, New South Wales.

In 1866 Thomas purchased some land in the nearby Crudine district and John (his father) purchased an adjoining 40 acres in 1867. They were to add to this land and establish the family farm “Glenvale” and “Athlone”. There was an official AJC racetrack established on the property for a time and on one occasion it was said (unproven) that the bushranger “Captain Starlight” (Fred Ward) won the cup race there and made off with the prize money before anybody realized who he was^[3].

Thomas married^[4] Anne Jonas on Thursday, 27th July 1871 in St John the Baptist's Church of England^[5], Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia.Together they had 11 children.

They had a love of horses and a dance was held in their woolshed after the races that were held on the property. They stood a thoroughbred stallion “Grand Doria” and a Clydesdale stallion “Milton” on the property. Thomas and Anne retired to Sydney^[3].

Thomas passed away^[6] on Sunday, 11th May 1924 at Ashfield, New South Wales, Australia, aged 82 years, 21 days, and is interred^[7] at Rookwood Anglican Cemetery, Rookwood, New South Wales, Zone C, Section 6, Grave 2598.
