Biography

William was born in 1888. He served as a Methodist minister in Oklahoma and other conferences. He passed away in 1957.

After his wife, Oma passed away in 1919, Will was left with 2 young children. He remarried Lillie Bell Stephenson a year later and the children were raised by their father and step-mother.

The 1940 Census lists his mother-in-law, Mary Stephenson, age 78 living with them.

The following is his memoir from the 1957 Methodist Church Oklahoma Annual Conference Journal:

Will Carleton Heaton was born in Farmington, Mo., on March 10, 1888. He died on May 22, 1957, in a Mangum, Oklahoma hospital, after a long illness, and was buried at Purcell, Oklahoma, where he made his home. Brother Heaton has served as an active minister in the Methodist Conference in Oklahoma, Kansas and New Mexico for over 38 years, before his retirement, because of failing health, from the pastorate at Beaver City, Oklahoma, in 1950. In all, he served more than twenty churches during his long ministry. He had served as Conference Missionary Secretary; as Chairman of the Conference Relations Committee; as Dean of the conference undergraduate school for pastors. He had served as pastor-in-charge, during the building of ten new churches and parsonages. He is survived by his wife, Lillie B., of Purcell; a daughter, Mrs. J.O. Smith, of Tulsa, a son, Rev. Loren Heaton, of Mangum First Methodist Church and five grandchildren.
