Biography

John "William" Hedge was born on April 15, 1673[1] to Elisha Hedge and Mary (Sturges) Hedge of Barnstable, Plymouth Colony.[2][3]

John married Thankful Lothrop on January 25, 1699/1700.[3][4][5][6] They had nine known children:[6]

  1. Abigail (1700-1732), m. Nathaniel Clarke (~1682-?)
  2. John (1702-1761), m. Desire Hawes (1704-1764)
  3. Barnabas (1704-1762), m. Mercy (Barnes) Cole (1708-1791), widow of Samuel Cole (1709-1731)
  4. Susannah (1706-1706)
  5. Elisha (1707-1723), d. age 15 when a tree branch knocked him off the horse he was riding
  6. Sarah (1709-1761), m. (1st) Ebenezer Hawes (1705-1741), m. (2nd) Deacon Isaac Matthews (1712-1790)
  7. Thankful (1712-1762), m. Edward Sturgis II (1710-1773)
  8. Mercy (1714-1792), m. Thomas Howes (1711-1793)
  9. Anna (1716-1782), m. Prince Hawes, Sr. (1709-1771)

John died on June 15, 1746, in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1] He is buried in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouth Port, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.[1]
