Marie was born in 1863. She was the daughter of Peder Helland and Anna Jonsdt. She passed away in 1932. [1]

Family history reports:
Peder Erickson Helland like the rest of the men folks of the lands in the winter went fishing for a living. They had only open sail boats and awful stormy weather. They lost all their fish nets and came home with nothing. When Mr. Helland came home he found his barn had blown down from the storm. He had a real nice farm in Norway.
In the spring of 1870 Mr. Helland decided to go to America so in a little sail boat that took six weeks to cross the vast Atlantic Ocean, Peter Erickson Helland and wife Anna Veiner Bjerga left Norway, with their nine children to sail for America settling in Story County, Iowa where they lived the rest of their lives.
Found in a booklet about the Helland family passed down by a unknown family member who compiled a booklet on family history.
