Edward Hembree was born in 1780 in old Ninety Six District, South Carolina (possibly in North Carolina).[1] He was a son of "Old John" Hembree and Mary Jackson (may have been Murphy).
Around 1800, he married Eliza Stratton and they made their home in Pendleton District, South Carolina, living on 26 Mile Creek on lands owned or formerly owned by older brother William Hembree.[2] The Hembrees had seven children: [3]
Elijah John (1801-1848)
Jesse (1802-1870)
Elizabeth (1806-)
Eliza (1808-1880)
Simeon (1810-1859)
Zenith or Cenith (1814-1889)
Edward, Jr. (1816-1858)
Edward's wife Eliza passed away in 1780, and Edward married a second time, to Phene Hughes? (1774-1855) [4][5]
