N26It is believed that he was born in Virginia among early settlers along the James River. He appears on records of Hanover, Goochland and Halifax Counties, Virginia. A civil suit Clement Read vs. James Hembry in Feb 1754 Halifax Co, VA validates the Hembree name. Clement Read, an attorney for Col. Henry Embry, would presumably know the spelling.

I would suggest you READ some research and LOOK at work of Bob Hembrees work Roots Branches & Leaves & The descendants of Joel Hembree by Eula Hembree Nichols & The Abraham project by Larry Petrinsky before reaching your conclusion of the parents of James & David. Where are your sources??? Bob Hembree work father of James & David was James Hembree a planter who had a gist mill on the Hyco River- Eula Hembree Nichols perhaps thefather could have been William because of a record with there three names . Larry Petrinsky - agrees with Bob Hembree that James Hembree was the father of James & David Hembrre -----What proof do you have that Frances Marie Hembree was the sister of James Hembree b. 1730? Just looking at McCravy's migration pattern after the war to NC and were he was living (on the Tyger River) in SC would seem she was most likely the daughter of James and Sarah Hembree who settled on the Tyger River in 1772. Records -migration patterns, as well the areas in which they settled are used by researchers to get an idea of family relationship.
