Susan Jane (Hendrix) Wilcox is presumed to be Elvira's sister, which would make Elvira one of the two females age 5-9 living with James Hendricks in 1840.[7] A published biography of another of their children, William, suggests James and Martha were married around 1830.[8]
The 1840 census indicates a mother born between 1800-1810, yet other records for Martha (King) Hendricks suggest a birth date no earlier than 1812. Rather than representing a different first wife for James, it is presumed that the 1840 census simply misrepresented Martha's age by a few years.
