Biography

James Hereford is a part of US Black heritage.

James was born in 1879 in Henry County, Virginia. He was the son of James Esmond Hereford and Missouri Whittico.[1]

The 1880 Census shows him at age 2 in the home of his parents in Ridgeway, Henry County, Virginia.[2] Note that his family lives next to the Whitico family, which is his mother's birth name.

He married Goldie Faucette on 2 Sep 1914 in Durham County, North Carolina.[3] [4] Their children:

  1. James E Hereford (1915–1999)
  2. Henry Cecil Hereford (1917–1977)
  3. Clarence W Hereford (1921–1978)
  4. Benena Louise (Hereford) Peatross (1922-1986)

The 1920 Census[5] shows him at age 38 with his wife and two children in North Fork, McDowell County, West Virginia. He is a physician in general practice on his own account.

The 1930 Census[6] shows him at age 46 with his wife, four children, and a boarder in North Fork, McDowell County, West Virginia. He is a physician with an office.

The 1940 Census[7] shows him at age 56 with his wife and four children in the Morgan Magisterial District of Monongalia County, West Virginia. He is working as a physician and surgeon in a private practice. He worked about 70 hours during the week of March 24-30, 1940.

He died on 15 Dec 1943 in Monongalia County, West Virginia.[8] [9] [10]
