Mary Herr (1761-1838) was born in Millersville, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, a daughter of John and Mary (Myer) Herr and grand daughter of Abraham and Anna (Miller) Herr. Mary married Andrew Kaufman (aka Coffman) the eldest son of Christian Kaufman (1723-1806) and his wife Barbara (?nee). In 1796, Andrew was given almost one hundred acres of farmland in Manor Township, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, by his parents. Andrew sold his portion of the 462 acres of land owned by his father, at a great profit, after which Andrew migrated to Fayette county, Pennsylvania, where he took up a larger tract of land in German Township, near present day McClellandtown, Pennsylvania. Mary and Andrew were Mennonites. [1]Mary and Andrew gave the middle name of "Herr" to most, if not all, of their ten children:

Mary Herr Coffman, married Christian Weightman
Elizabeth Herr Coffman, married Isaac Blosser, and moved to Fairfield county, Ohio
Benjamin Herr Coffman
Nancy Herr Coffman, married William Dunaway
John Coffman, possibly the same who died in Jackson Township, Perry county, Ohio and married Mary Moore, on August 18, 1864
