Robert E. Herring was born in Georgia around 1869. His father was James Monroe Herring and his mother Mary Ann Elizabeth McCurray. [1]
Robert was born in Georgia, but his parents moved to Blount County, Alabama shortly after his birth. [1] He spent all his youth in Blount County, Alabama, and in 1900 he lived in Campbells Township where he worked on the family farm. [2]
Robert married Rosa Lee Honea on October 7, 1902 in Blount County, Alabama. [3] His son Lonnie was born in 1903, son Carl in 1905, son Harlin in 1907, and Ruth Louise in 1908. He moved his family to Albertville, Marshall County, Alabama sometime after his marriage. He rented a house and worked as a grocer merchant for himself. [4]
His wife Rosa died in 1913, and Robert moved to Boaz in the same county. He lived with his sister in law Dina. He was working as a butcher buyer to earn a living. [5]
In 1940, Robert still lived in Boaz on Brown Street. He has remarried by this time to a Asie. Her maiden name is unknown. He owned his own home valued at $1,000 and worked as a broker in the cotton industry. [6]
Robert died on February 5, 1958 in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama. [7]
