Biography

Tamer Hiatt was born December 8, 1807 to William Hiatt and his wife, Jemima Lundy.^[1] On March 25th, 1824, she married John Wesley Holladay in Highland County, Ohio.^[2][3] John was a son of Lewis Holladay and wife, Ruth Sinclair.

In 1830 the family lived in northern Highland County, Ohio in Fairfield township, where John was apparently a farmer.^[4]

On May 23, 1835, the Holladays lived in Ross County, just east of Highland County. They purchased land in Greenfield from a Thomas Blair. On October 14, 1837 John and Tamer bought land from Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cherry in East Monroe, a small town between Greenfield and Leesburg in northern Highland County (Deed Book #11, page 220). On November 1, 1838 John and Tamer sold this same property to George Huddle (Deed Book 7, pg 221).

According to the 1840 Census, the Holladay family lived in the Liberty Township of Highland County, Ohio. At that time, John and Tamer had six living children.^[5]

The family also lived in Grant County, Indiana where the rest of the children: Wesley, Riley, Rachel and Emma Jane were born.^[6][7]

As the children married, they settled in various areas of the Midwest with most of them staying in Iowa.

John died August 30, 1871 and is buried in the Whitaker Family Cemetery near Albion, Marshall County, Iowa.^[8]

Tamer Holladay lived at Highland township in Clay County, Kansas in 1880 where she was raising two of her grandchildren while living next door to her son, George Holladay.^[9]

Tamer Hiatt Holladay died and was buried in Iowa Township, Marshall County, Iowa in November 1886.
