Biography

Aaron Lewis Higginbotham was born on 31 Dec 1826 in Amherst County, Virginia, son of Absalom Higginbotham Sr. (1781 - 1866) and Mary C. (Sandidge) Higginbotham (1789 - 1871).

Aaron Higginbotham married Sally Ann Sandidge on 18 December 1856 in Amherst, Virginia, United States.[1] They had two known children.

  2. Thomas Nathaniel Higginbotham b. 1860 VA - d. 1925 IL, m. Lorena Mirian Corser

Sarah passed away a month after giving birth to Thomas. Aaron married a 2nd time, on 16 Nov 1885, in Amherst, to Josephine Temperance Burks (1860 - 1924). They had 4 known children.

Aaron served in Company I, 19th Virginia Infantry of the CSA during the Civil War. He was wounded at Seven Pines in June 1862. He was wounded a second time from a "gunshot wound to the cheek" in May 1864. In the Richmond, Virginia Chimborazo Hospital Surgical Record for May 1864[2][3], the name of Aaron L Higginbotham is listed. His age is given as 37, and his rank is that of private in the 19th Regiment, Company I. His occupation is listed as a farmer. The nature of his wound is described as "V.S. face, fract mala & submaxillary right side." (Frank S.
