David was born on October 17, 1775 in Amherst County, Virginia. He was the fifth child of John Higginbotham and Rachel Banks.
David married Mary Elmslie Garrigues on December 22, 1810.[1]

David died at 77 years old on January 20, 1853 in Albemarie COunty, Virginia. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.[2]
