To all and Singular Persons as well Noble as others to whome theis presents shall come, Sr William Segar, Knt., alias Garter principall King of Armes sendeth his due salutations & greeting Know yee that whereas John Hellard alias Highlord together with his brother Zachary both of London, Marchants the Sonnes of John Hillard al's Highlord of the same Citie also Merchant; whoe was the sonne of William Hellard of Woodburye in the Countie of Devon gent., and beare for theire Coate-Armor sable a bend flenrtie Counter-flenrtie Argent, and wanting further for an ornament vnto their sayd Coate of Armes (as dyvers very auncyent Coates are found to want) a convenient Creast or Cognisance fitt to be borne'97 Haue requested me the sayd Garter to appoint them such a one, as they may lawfully beare withoute wrong-doing or prejndise to any person or persons Whatsoener : Which according to their due request I haue accomplished and granted in manner & forme following Viz. On a healme and wreathe of thuire Coullours an Escarbuncle sable flenrtie silver ; mantled gules, doubled Argent; As in the Margent are depicted : All w°h Armes and Creast, I the sayd Garter doe by theise presents ratifye, confirme & graunt Vnto the sayd John & Zacharie Hillard al's High-Lord, Bretheren and to their Yssues for ener : And that it shall be lawfull for them to use, beare & shewe forthe the same in Signetts, sheildes, Coate-Armor or otherwise at all tymes and in all places with their due differences according to the lawe of Armes without Lett or molestac'on. In Witness whereof I the sayd Garter haue herevnto sett my hand and Scale of Office the xxvjlh daye of Maye in the fythe yeare of the Raigne of our Souvraigne Lord Charles by the grace of God King of Great Brittaine France & Irelande, Defender of the faythe &c.
