Ann, daughter of Owen Hilly, was born in County Donegal c.married Mark McGrath of Meroo in 1874 in Braidwood, NSW.[1][2]
A newspaper obituary gives :
DEATH OF OLD RESIDENT. One of the pioneers of the Braidwood district in the person of Mrs. McGrath, wife of Mr. Mark McGrath, J.P., of Meroo. Braidwood, passed away on Monday night at the age of 76 years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Owen Hilly. The deceased lady was born in County Donegal (Ireland), the home of so many of our Australian pioneers. She arrived in this State in 1862 with her father and mother. Shortly afterwards the family came to Braidwood under engagement to Mr. R. Maddrell, of "Bedervale." Forty-eight years ago she married Mr. McGrath. At that time blacks were very numerous in the district, and one had to be careful of his or her movements. The deceased had two paralytic strokes a couple of years ago. Until a fortnight ago, however, she was able to get about with the aid of a walking stick. One of the saddest features of the death is that Mr. McGrath is also in a critical state, and no hopes are held out for his recovery. The deceased, who was highly esteemed by all who knew her, leaves four sons (Messrs. Patrick, Owen, John and Ernest) and one daughter (a nun in one of the Victorian Convents), to whom the sympathy of the community spontaneously goes out. The funeral took place in Braidwood yesterday afternoon, and was largely attended.[2]
