William Hobbs was born in London, England; his parents were James Hobbs and Anne, née Phillips.
He arrived with his mother in Moreton Bay in 1849, as ship's surgeon of the immigrant ship, Chaseley,
He was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, London, and at first, settled at Drayton on the Darling Downs.
one of a group of settlers who formed the Caboolture Cotton Co in 1861.
He later established a private medical practice in Brisbane.
He passed away in 1890.
