James HOCKETT ^[1],^[2] was born about 1867 ^[1],^[2] in Illinois ^[1],^[2]. He was the son of James HOCKETT (Abt 1840-????) ^[2] and Armintha Ann McCANN (Abt 1838-After 1886) ^{[citation needed]}.

He appeared on the census on 20 Jun 1870 ^{Note 1} in Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas as a member of James Hockett's household ^[1], and was listed as "age 4, born IL"

He appeared on the census on 3 Jun 1880 ^{Note 2} in Hanson County, Dakota Territory as a member of James Hockett's household ^[2], and was listed as "age 13, son, born IL, parents born IL".

It is unknown at this time if James married and/or had any children.
