Biography

Frank was born in 1898 in Smithville, WV. He was the son of George Skilful Hoff and Alazan Huldah Amos. His father committed suicide in 1904. His mother remarried in 1909 and at first he continued to live with her and her new family, but then went to stay with other relations. Tragically he did not get treated in time for appendicitis and died in 1914 in Parkersburg, WV at the age of 16. He is buried in Auburn Community Cemetery in Auburn, WV with other family members.

Hoff (page 16), accessed 20 July 2015: "George and his wife had three children: Amos, who never married; Lela, who married Hall Sommerville and lived on the old Hoff farm at Auburn; Frank, made his home with us after the death of his father. Frank died at the age of 18 with appendicitis. He died in St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, the appendix having ruptured before they could get him to the hospital."
