Biography

Josef Melchior Hofmann was born at Osterburken, Baden. He married Barbara Biemer on 6 May 1849, with whom they had six children: Felix, Rosina, Theodor, Emma, Theodor and Emma S. The first Theodor was born in 1850, and lived 13 months, Grandpa Hofmann was named after his older brother. It is the same for Emma S., her sister Emma lived 9 months 24 days.

Research Notes

Josef Melchior Hofmann died in Germany, his wife Barbara remarried to Konstantin Scherer. To the first marriage, there were six children. Two of the surviving children were named after two that had died, Emma and Theodor.
