Peter Hog, son of James Hog and Janet Blaickburn was baptised in the parish of Edinburgh, Midlothian on 8 January 1719. [1] According to Wikidot, he married Elizabeth Taylor in 1745 in Augusta County, Virginia. [2] (If he were born in 1703, it is possible that he had a previous marriage in Scotland prior to emigrating.)
Peter Hog served with George Washington as a captain in the Virginia services but was dismissed by Washington after serving unsatisfactorily. [3] After his dismissal from the service, he practiced as an attorney in Augusta County, Virginia from 1760 until his death in 1782. [3] He reportedly arrived in Virginia with two brothers by the names of Thomas and Walter in the mid-1740s. [3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:
After Hog was dismissed by Washington, Governor Dinwiddie over ruled Washington and reappointed him (see Gov Dinwiddie to Washington ) which Washington was not happy about (see letter G Washington to Dinwiddie). I’ve often wondered what the connection was between the Dinwiddies and Hogs. Both Scottish familys of some note. For Dinwiddie to stick his neck out a bit for Peter in overruling Washington.
