1776 Project
Private Caleb Holcomb served with 18th Regiment, Connecticut Militia during the American Revolution.

Caleb Holcomb was a Veteran of the Revolutionary War. Regiment: 18th Regiment of Militia (Commanded by Jonathan Pettibone). Captain Hezekiah Holcomb's Company, from August 26 to September 25, 1776, serving in New York. [1]

Caleb was a son of Joshua Holcomb and Martha Griffin.[2] He married the widow, Mrs. Mercy Winchell in 1776.[3] Their children were:

Bersheba Holcomb 1780–1856
Caleb Holcomb 1786 -1788
Caleb Holcomb 1788–1879
Boadica Holcomb 1792–1793
Amarilla Holcomb 1792–1793
Arbama Holcomb Loomis 1794–1872

Both infant Calebs and the twins Boadica and Amarila all died of small pox.

The family lived in Granby, Hartford, Connecticut. [4] The family moved to Windsor, Ashtabula, Ohio before 1820. [5] Caleb died in 1844 and is buried in Windsor Township Cemetery, Windsor, Ashtabula, Ohio. [6]

Elizabeth Adams Griffin Holcomb was born in Feb 1686/7 and could not have been the mother of a child born about 1752. And based on her husband, Caleb Holcomb's estate being distributed to his siblings, he appears to have had no survivng children. There is a record in Simsbury TM4:166 which shows the birth of Caleb Holcomb, son of Joshua Holcomb Junr, born 25 Jan 1754. Might he be the Ohio man?
