Biography

John M. Hollabaugh was born on 3 August 1846 in Tennessee.

He was a Union soldier with Company I of the 3rd Arkansas Calvary during the War Between the States.[1][2][3][4]

John married Mary Petty .[5] Their children were:

  1. Thomas
  2. William
  3. James[6]
  4. George
  5. Martha
  6. Simpson[7]
  7. Ella (Hollabaugh) Thompson.

In 1904 he married Mary Tennessee Voss nee Williams.[8][9]

He married Margaret Jones in 1911.[10]

John died on 29 June 1921 in Pope County, Arkansas aged 74.[11] He is buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Hector, Arkansas.[12]

Research Notes

In 1860 John and Judith Hollabaugh have a 14 year old named John with them that did not appear on the 1850 census with them. Perhaps an oversite, but it is also possible he is an orphan that they have taken in. Was there another brother that died prematurely that this child belonged to? Charts sometimes show this to be the son of Boaz, which is the way it currently is on WT, but is there any documentation?

There is a biography copied into the collaborate section (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/collaborate/L41T-Q49) of John M's Family Search profile. It was written by a John Hollabaugh, but not enough information is given to tell us which John Holloabaugh or when it was written. It is unsourced. For what it is worth it states, "...two Hollabough brothers, George A And John [entered] at the Arkansaw area about the time Searcy County was organized. in 1868-69 a nephew, John M lived in searcy County, Then Moved on to Pope County." This would indicate that the John Mathias Hollabaugh we see him living with in 1860 is not his father, but an uncle.
