Ambrose was a witness to John Harvill's 1766 Cumberland County, NC will and listed as owing money to the estate.
He and Margaret married in NC and the family moved to what became Columbia County, Georgia soon after John's will was probated in 1767.The family included John and Margaret's children and Thomas Hill who was Margaret's son by her first marriage and possibly her brother-in-law Thomas Hill. Ambrose may or may not have been a Quaker, but he was associated with the Quaker settlement of Wrightsboro and owned land there.
Ambrose received a Land Grant for serving as a refugee soldier along with his Harvell stepsons and-son- in- law Edward Murphy.
In 1801 he was taxed on 865 acres in Warren County and 1 poll and11 slaves.
