Martha Hollingshead, daughter of Jesse Hollingshead and Julia Holcomb, was born on 28 Nov. 1847 in Georgia, USA.[1] She appeared on the census of 1850 in the home of her parents at Barrett, Lumpkin County, Georgia.[2]
She married Silas Edwards on 12 April 1866 at Benton County, Arkansas.[3] Silas was murdered in 1869.
She was a housekeeper when she appeared on the census of 25 Aug. 1870 living with her two children, John and Sarah, in the home of her brother-in-law, William and her sister, Amanda (Hollingshead) Green, at Round Prairie Township, Benton County, Arkansas.[4]
She married John Patterson on 11 Dec. 1872 in Benton County, Arkansas.[5]
She was married and "attending to farming" when she appeared on the census of 5 June 1880 at Wallace Township, Benton County, Arkansas.[6] She was a widow and a farmer when she appeared on the census of 21 June 1900 at El Dorado Township, Benton County, Arkansas. Her son John and his wife Sarah were living next door.[7] She appeared on the census of 29 April 1910 at Aswater Road, Decatur, Benton County, Arkansas.[8]
On 20 Aug. 1917 Martha filed for a Widow's Pension based on Silas's service in the US Civil War. She stated that she and Silas had two children. She stated that she married John Patterson and at his death "I had ten children including Patterson's and my own."[1]
Martha died on 10 Oct. 1919 at Little Rock, Arkansas.
