William Holloday was a Virginia colonist.

William was born about 1700, probably in James City, Virginia. He may be the son of Thomas Hollyday/Holladay (d 1744, Chowan County, North Carolina) and his first wife whose name probably was Hannah.[1]

William married Elizabeth Unknown about 1725 in James City County, Virginia. Known children include:

  1. Thomas Holloday
  2. Mary Holloday, 1727
  3. Samuel Holloday, 1728
  4. Joseph Holloday
  5. Unknown daughter(s)

William and his sister Hannah Warren are named in the will of their father "Thomas Holladay of Chowan Co, North Carolina which bears date August 30th, 1744 and was witnessed September 8, 1744 at Aden House, Bertie County, North Carolina by John Thach, John Nichols, and Prudence Garrett."[1]

Death & Legacy

William passed away about May 1754 in Tyrell County, North Carolina. His will was written on 23 April 1754 and proved at the June Tyrell County Court 1754.[2] Abstract of will:

  • to son Thomas Holladay, young negro girl Dinah, 8 head of cattle
  • to son Joseph Holladay, negro boy Charles
  • to all my children equally divided, my right in a negro fellow Jemey now living with Hannah Warren [William's sister, also named in father Thomas Holliday's will]
  • to son Sammuel Holladay, the "manner plantation," 6 head of cattle
  • rest of cattle divided equally among rest of children
  • to my daughters (unnamed), equally divided all "money due to me by a bond from John Allen of the county of James City in Virginia"
  • to wife Elizabeth, a negro fellow Jip and a wench called Moll during life or widowhood, then to son Sammuel Holladay
  • Executors Thos Holladay and Sammuel Holladay
  • Wits: John Bennett, William Jones

An estate sale of his belongings was held on 26 October 1754 in Tyrell County, North Carolina.[3]
