Isaac was born in Brooke, Virginia in 1844 to Thomas and Mary Jane (Snyder) Holmes. He is listed with his parents on both: the 1850 Census[1] and the 1860 Census[2] in Jefferson, Ohio. It is believed that he served in the Civil War on the Union Side and was a Private in Company A of the 126th Regiment of the Ohio Infantry[3] but the only record matching this information is linked to "Isaac C. Holmes" and a birth record for a son has the middle initial of "W."
On December 25, 1884 he married Hannah Mary Belle Sealock in Starke, Indiana.[4] The couple are listed together on several birth records and on both: the 1900 Census[5] and the 1910 Census[6] in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Isaac passed away at the age of 79 in September of 1924 and is buried next to his wife in Good Hope Cemetery inGreenfield, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.[7]
