Biography

Carroll Holmes was born in East Machias, Maine on December 13, 1901 to Charles L. Holmes and Kate P. Ackley.^[1][1] In 1910, the family was living on Hadley Lake Road in East Machias, where Caroll's father was working off jobs.^[2][2] In 1920, the family was still living on Hadley Lane Road; Carroll's father was working as a chauffeur for a private individual and, even Caroll was 18, he was not employed.^[3][3] On September 11, 1928, Carroll married Gladys G. Geel, on September 11, 1928, in Machiasport, Maine. ^[4] By 1930, Carroll's mother had evidently passed away; Carroll and his wife, Gladys, were living with Carroll's father on the East Hadley Road house and had a 10 month old son. Both Carroll and his father were doing general labor for work.^[5][4] By 1940, Carroll's father had passed away and the family had added four more children, now in ownership of and living in the family home on East Hadley Road. In the aftermath of the great Depression, Carroll was working as a timekeeper for the W.P.A.^[6][5] No record is found of Carroll Holmes' death; his wife died in 1978.
