After the War, he came back Gilmer Co, Georgia, but soon returned to Tennessee, to marry Sallie Wilson. They were married in McMinn County, Tennessee, on her 21st birthday, 28 Nov 1865. They remained in Tennessee until after the birth of Joseph in 1867, then moved back to the Lower Turniptown area of Gilmer County, Georgia. Sons, James, Benjamin, Charles and Lawrence were born in Gilmer County. Sallie died on 6 Apr 1880, at age 35...

12 1/2 years later, Jasper married Ada Marie Sorrells on 17 Apr 1898, recorded in Gilmer Co, GA; Bk 4, Pg 120... He moved her to Cartecay, where their grandson Vernon, Jr. and family lives today. Here they raised a family of Vernon, Homer, Florence, Harold, Glenn, Jewell and Raymond... Ada died in Buncombe County, North Carolina on 19 May 1961...

Jasper served as postmaster of Pike, Georgia in the enclosed area that was the dogtrot between two sections of their old log home. He also operated the grist mill and a small general store near his home. Jasper died in 1925 and is buried at the old Holt family cemetery which is now known as Northcutt Baptist Church Cemetery, in Gilmer County.

An excerpt from a document written by Jasper's son, Homer; The largest nugget ever found, until that time, was found at White Path. Two nuggets with a total weight of 1600 penny weight was found there. The larger of the two was seen and handled by my grandfather, and it weighed 1100 DWT. This would of course give us the exact weight of the lesser one, that being 500 DWT. This is a terrific sized piece of gold, and the larger of the two was described to my father, Jasper Holt, as being, "larger than a goose egg."
