Biography
John Holton was born in 1777 in Tingewick and baptised there on 15 February 1778 as the son of John Holton and Mary.[1]
On 20 May 1801, John Holten married Hannah Eagleton in the Church of St. George, Evenley, Northamptonshire. Witnesses were William Holton, John Holton and Thomas Sommerton. The witnesses wrote their names properly whereas the bride wrote hannah valton and the groom wrote hollon.[2]
They had the following children:

- James Holton (1805-1872)
- Melina Holten (1809-1826)[4]
- Samuel Holten (1811-1813)[5][6]
- Jacob Samuel Holton (1814-1871)
- Robert (1816-1835)[7][8]
- Daniel Holton (1820-1903)[9] married Mary Ann Howard[10]
On 23 May 1814, at the baptism of his son Jacob Samuel, the occupation of John is registered as Blacksmith.
On 30 June 1816, at the baptism of his son Robert, the occupation of John is registered as Blacksmith.
In 1831, he is registered in Evenley, Northamptonshire as John Holton, aged 54 (=1777), with his wife Hannah, aged 51 and their children Samuel (18), Robert (16) and Daniel (12).[11]
In 1841, he is registered in Evenly, Northamptonshire as John Holton, aged 64 (=1777), Blacksmith, not born in this County, together with Hannah, aged 61, and their son Daniel Holton, aged 21, agricultural labourer, both not born in this county.
In 1851, he is registered in Evenley, Northamptonshire as John Holton, married, aged 74 (=1777), Pauper Blacksmith, born in Tingewick, Buckinghamshire, with his wife Hannah, aged 70, born in Hanwell, Oxfordshire.
On the same census 1851 page is one Mary Ann Holton, head, married, aged 25, Lace Maker, born in Brackley St. Peter Northamptonshire, with her children William (5 scholar born in Brackley), Mary Ann (4 born in Evenley) and Hannah (1 born in Evenley)
He was buried on 24 February 1859 in Northamptonshire, Evenley, St. George Church. It is stated that he was 82 years old (=1777).
Research notes
Thomas Som(m)erton can be found in Syresham, some 6 miles from Evenley. Born about 1759 and died 1 April 1836 in Syresham. Had a son Thomas born in 1785.
