Not to be confused with Dorothy (Honeywood) Croke, her aunt.

The profile of Dorothy Honeywood, daughter of Mary Atwater Honywood, shows her married to both WIllliam Croke and Henry Thompson. This is not possible. William Croke lived until at least 1642, after which Dorothy could not have married and had children with Thompson.

The memorial of Henry and Dorothy Thompson shows them married together for 63 years and buried under the same stone in Lenham, Kent. These can not be the same person. Accordingly, Henry Thompson has been detached as a spouse from Honeywood-1 and attached to this Dorothy, along with their children.

Biography

Dorothy Honywood was the firstborn child and daughter of Robert Honeywood and his first wife Dorothy Crooke, who were married in 1569. ^[1] Dorothy was born at London on Christmas day, 25 December 1572, and baptised the 28th. ^[2]

"The said Robert Honywood, beinge 24 years old, first married Dorothy Crooke, daughter and heire of John Crooke, Dr. in the Laws. by his wife Dorothy Theobalds, July 3, 1569, and by her had issue: l. "... eldest son Robert Honywood, of Charing, and afterwards of Markshall, in Essex, was twice married; first to Dorothy, daughter of John Crook, LL. D. by whom he had one son, Sir Robert Honywood, of Charing, and a daughter Dorothy, married to Henry Thomson, gent." ^[3]

Dorothy Honywood married Henry Thomson (Thompson), son and heir of Thomas Thomson of Sandwich, Kent. ^[4] "Dorothy Honiwood, ye first child of ye saied Robert Honiwood ye father, married unto Henry Thompson, Gent. 27 Feb. 1588-7, at Dorking,"^[5] To this marriage she brought the manor of Royton in Lenham, as settled on her by Robert Honywood at his death. ^[3]

9. Some accounts also speak of a son William, but this is not supported by evidence. ^[6]

Henry Thomson died October 1648 and was buried in Lenham, as was his wife Dorothy, the next year, under the same stone. Their inscription reads: ^[7]

Here under lye the bodyes of Henry / Thompson and Dorathy [sic.] his Wife of Royton / Chappell in this parish. Hee was sonne / and coheire of Thomas Thompson of / Sandwich Marchant and shee eldest / daughter of Robert Honywood of Pett / in Charing Esq. /
