Biography

William Hood was born about 1790 in Ireland. He immigrated in November 1800 with James Hood who may have been an older brother.

On 11 April 1825 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, William Hood, a native of Ireland stated that he had landed in the United States in November 1800 and has resided since 1811 in counties of Allegheny and Beaver, and the last year of which he has resided in Beaver County.[1] Making the same statements at the same time was James Hood , who may have been William's older brother.[2]

William was probably the 26-44 year old male in James Hood's household in 1820 Moon Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.[3]

William and Mary Eliza Van Campen were married about 1828. Mary was born about October 17, 1805 in Sussex, New Jersey, United States. Their children were:

  1. Aaron Hood (~1829–~1865) [uncertain].
  2. William Hood (~1831–~1885) [uncertain].
  3. Elizabeth Hood (~1833– ) [uncertain].
  4. James Hood (~1835–~1900) [uncertain].
  5. William Elijah Hood (~1837–~1879) [uncertain].
  6. Gibson Hood (~1841–~1871) [uncertain].
  7. John Hood (1843–1914)

In 1850 William Hood was age 60 and living in Greene Township, Beaver County[4] Living 8 households from him (63/65) was James Hood, Jr., his probably nephew.

William Hood died on 10 September 1853, his headstone giving his age as 67. He was buried in Old Mill Creek Cemetery, Hookstown, Beaver County.[5]
