Biography

On the 25th May 1805, Richard Hooper of St. Mewan and Catherine Coad were married by banns at St. Stephen in Brannel, Cornwall, England. Witnessed by David Cock and Edward Coad[1]

In the 1841 census Richard (age 58) was a blacksmith, living in St Mewan, Cornwall, with his son Francis and daughter Catherine.[2]

This is the last Will and Testament of me Richard Hooper of the Parish of Saint Mewan in the County of Cornwall, Blacksmith - I will and direct that all my just debts Legacies Testamentary and Funeral Charges be fully paid and satisfied by my Executrix hereinafter named and that the Legacies be paid at the end of six months from my death - I give and bequeath unto my son Richard all my working Tools and stock of Iron in Trewoon shop I give and devise unto my son Jonathan his Executors Administrators and afsigns All such Interest as I shall have at the time of my death of and in all that Mefsuage and Tenement in or called Parra Moor in the Parish of St Ewe in the said County - I give and devise unto my Daughter Prudence her Executors Administrators and afsigns All such Interest as I shall have at the time of my death of and in All that Dwelling House and Premises near the watering in the Parish of Saint Austell - I give and devise unto my son Francis his Executors Administrators and afsigns all such Interest as I shall have at the time of my death of and in all those Premises situate near Screeda clay work in Saint Austell aforesaid and all my working tools and stock of Iron in the shop and Premises thereon - I give to my son Edward the sum of Five Pounds All the rest residue and remainder of my Estate and Effects Goods and Chattels whatsoever and wheresoever I give devise and bequeath the same unto and to the use of my Daughter Catherine her Executors Administrators and Afsigns And I nominate and appoint my said Daughter Catherine Executrix of this my will hereby revoking all former or other wills by me at any time heretofore made do declare this to be my last Will and Testament In witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the fifteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty one Signed sealed published and Richard Hooper (signed) declared by the said Testator Richard Hooper as and for his last will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses Wm Jago John Jago

Know all Men by these Presents that We Richard Hooper of the Parish of St Columb Major in the County of Cornwall Farmer William Hooper of the Parish of St Enoder in the said County Farmer John Rowse of Saint Columb in the Said County Farmer and Solomon Martin of the Borough of Bodmin in the County of Cornwall Yeoman are held and firmly bound unto The Worshipful William Short Clerk Archdeacon of Cornwall.
In the Sum of Nine Hundred Pounds of good and lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said William Short or to his certain Attorney his Executors Administrators or Afsigns To which Payment well and truly to be made We oblige ourselves and every of us by himself for the whole our and each and every of our Heirs Executors and Administrators firmly by these Presents Sealed with our Seals dated the Seventh day of December in the Fifty Ninth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of the United. Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King Defender of the Faith etc And in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and eighteen
The Condition of this Obligation is such That if the above bounden Richard Hooper and William Hooper being as the Said admitted Administrators of all and singular the Goods Chattles and Credits of Ann Hooper late of Saint Enoder widow deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods Chattles and Credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the Hands Pofsefsion or Knowledge of them the said Richard Hooper and William Hooper or into the Hands and Pofsefsion of any Person or Persons for them and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the Registry of the Archdeaconry Court of Cornwall at or before the last day of March next ensuing and the same Goods Chattles and Credits and all other the Goods Chattles and Credits of the said deceased at the time of her death which at any time after shall come to the hands or Pofsefsion of the said Richard Hooper and William Hooper or into the hands and Pofsefsion of any other Person or Persons for them do well and truly administer according to Law And further do make or cause to be made a true and just Accompt of the said Administration at or before the last day of December 1819 and all the Rest and Residue of the said Goods Chattles and Credits which shall be found remaining upon the said Administrators Accompt the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges for the time being of the said Court shall deliver and pay unto such Person or Persons respectively as the said Judge or Judges by his or their Decree or Sentence pursuant to the true Intent and Meaning of a late Act of Parliament made in the two and twentieth and three and Twentieth Years of the Reign of our late Sovereign Lord King Charles the Second instituted an Act for the better settling of Intestates Estates shall limit and appoint And if it shall hereafter appear that any last Will and Testament was made by the said deceased and the Executor or Executors therein named do exhibit the same into the said Court making Request to have it allowed and approved accordingly if the said Richard Hooper and William Hooper above bounden being thereunto required do render and deliver the said Letters of Administration (Approbation of such Testament being first had and made) in the said Court then this Obligation to be void or else to remain in full Force and Virtue
