Per Hooper Genealogy: Mary was the daughter of Ezekial Hooper, b Mendon, Mass 1757, moved to Annapolis NS. died 1837??. Mary married _____ Simmons. p. 20-21

There seems to have been a Maria Hooper, daughter of Ezekial's brother Jonathan and his wife Mary Messenger who was living at about the same time and area.(Hooper Genealogy p. 20)

"Mary Wilson married Ezekiel Hooper son of Thomas Hooper senior. ... Their daughter Mary married Alexander Simmons who lived on Henry Oakes farm south of Grand Joggin in 1853 but removed in following year to mouth of Bear River and later to the Annapolis Valley."

Unresovled Issues

Contradictory data: Mary Messanger is given as Mary Hooper's mother in our written tradition. (see discussion of Irene Simmons's parentage.) The Hooper Genealogy has Mary Messanger married to Jonathan Hooper, Ezekiel's brother.

A Mary Hooper is mentioned in Ezekial's will (about 1837) as daughter "Mary Ann Hooper". This would imply that Mary Ann was not married at that time. Possiblities include that 1) Ezekial had a daughter Mary and a daughter Mary Ann, that 2) Mary had received her share when she married, that 3)Mary was divorced(?) 4) that Mary never married. http://www.george-king.com/abstract.htm

The Benjamin Simmons who married Rebecca Harrington (also in our written tree and were parents of Benjamin) came from the opposite end of Nova Scotia. There was some scandle related to them. (source - Nova Scotia Archives). I have a copy of a quit claim land record in Digby, NS. This would tend to confirm the Simmons on the opposite side of Nova Scotia.
