Biography

This profile is part of the Hoover Name Study.

David Hoover was born about 1778 in Woodbury Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania. [1]

According to U.S. Direct Tax Lists for Woodbury Township, (now) Bedford County, Pennsylvania, David's father Martin and family lived in Woodberry in 1798 in a 30-by-24-foot log house with one barn and one small shop. The property was owned by John Henry, who also rented land to the John Frederick Hartle family in the same neighborhood, and whose daughter Ketty David would marry the following year. [2]

According to the 1820 U.S. Federal Census, David's home and household on enumeration date 7 Aug 1820 was in German Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. [3] Census data records in his household four white free males under age 10, one free white male age 26 to 44 (David implied), and one free white female age 26-44 (Catherine implied). One household member is listed as "engaged in manufactures," who would be David.

David and Catherine (by implication) appear in the 1840 U.S. Federal Census for Delaware County, Indiana, with household members reported as follows: one free white male age 60-69 (David), two free white females age 20-29, one free white female age 60-69 (Catherine), with one person in the household engaged in agriculture. [4]

David passed away after 22 Jul 1848, when his will is recorded in Perry Township, Delaware County, Indiana, naming wife Catherine as beneficiary and friend John Bowman as executor of his will. [5]
