Biography

Elisha was born circa 1721. He is the son of Elisha Hopkins and Experience Scudder[1] [2]

Elisha married Hannah Wing on 12 Jul 1753 in Harwich, Massachusetts[3] [1] [2] [4] [5] [6], and their children included:

  1. Samuel, born 1757, who married Rebecca Pannel of Boston[6] [5]
  2. Elizabeth unmarried[6] [5]
  3. Hannah, baptized November 27, 1763 in Barrington (although her baptism was registered in Massachusetts[5]
  4. Mary, born March 24, 1763. She was the first child born in Barrington. She who married David son of Rev. Samuel Wood, in 1779[6]
  5. Mercy, who married Gamaliel son of Heman Kenney in 1780[6] [5]
  6. Elisha born June 22, 1765 who married Bethia daughter of Henry Wilson[6] [5]
  7. Edward born June 27, 1767 who married Hannah Hinckley, N. England[6] [5]
  8. Isaac born October 15, 1770 who married Ann Buck of New England[6] and settled in Jedore, Halifax County
  9. Seth, born April 15, 1774, who died unmarried[6]

Elisha and his family emigrated to Barrington Nova Scotia in 1761, and were among the first proprietors of the town. Elisha is credited with helping other settlers survive the first cruel winter[6]

Elisha died 16 Jan 1795 in Barrington[1]
