"Gilvendre" is a misspelling of Cilhendre, meaning 'back of the old town'. The cluster of farms known as Cilhendre has appeared over the years in various administrative areas, creating difficulties for researchers. It has variously been termed Cilhendre hamlet, part of Wern-ddu hamlet, part of Ynys-y-mond, part of Cilybebyll ecclesiastical parish, part of Llangyfelach ecclesiastical parish, and still further variations following the civil parish re-organisation of the 1860s. It's no wonder that the annotations on official documents are so confusing. Even the county of Glamorgan, hitherto a reliable static reference, has now gone, placing Cilhendre in the county of "Neath Port Talbot".Barrington-69 15:15, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
To locate the farm in the present day, Cilhendre Fawr Farm still exists outside the town of Pontardawe, a short way from the village of Alltwen, on the hill road towards Ty-Llwyd farm. It has since diversified into non-farming activities: see Cilhendre Fawr Farm. The Ordnance Survey grid reference is SN723037.
Across the other side of the local road there is a woodland reserve called Craig Cilhendre
