Biography

Sylvester was born in 1905. He was the son of Chesley Hopper and Lillie Warner. He married Dellia Merrie Smith on 2 Nov 1929 in Lamar, Barton, Missouri. They had three children: Dorothy, Robert and Leonard Hopper. Dellia passed away in 1994. He passed away in 1973.


Obituary

Hopper Rites The funeral for Sylvester Lee Hopper. 68.501 W. 3rd, who died Wednesday, will be at 1pm Saturday at Johnson Chapel.

Pastor Bobby Potter will officiate, assisted by Lyle Bridges. Graveside rites will be at 3 pm Saturday at Rosebank Cemetery in Mulberry.

Hopper apparently suffered a heart attack Wednesday while working at the city landfill southeast of Chanute. He was dead on arrival at Neosho Memorial Hospital.

A resident of Chanute 24 years, he was a retired machinist for Star Drill and had been employed by the city, working part-time at the landfill. He had moved here from Mulberry where he had worked in coal mines and for United Iron Works for 20 years. He had served an enlistment in the Army.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Chesley Hopper, he was born Oct. 11. 1905, in Woodward, Okla. He and Della M. Smith were married in Lamar. Mo., Nov. 2. 1929.

Survivors include the widow: two sons. Robert. St. Joseph, Mo., and Leonard. Ellsworth: a daughter. Mrs. Dorothy West. Neodesha: six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter: a sister. Mrs. Elizabeth Haynes, Snohomish Wash: two half-brothers, Charlie Behrent and Henry Behrent, both of Portland, Ore: three half-sisters. Mrs. Francis Broberg. Portland, Mrs. Orpha Vidito. Beatty. Nev, and Mrs. Addie Vidito. Roseburg. Ore.

He was preceded in death by a son and a half brother.
