Cooper, Dolores Jane (age 75) passed away May 20, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Fairfield, WA. She was born May 28, 1932 in Cleveland, OH to Joseph and Filomena Pistilli Hornyak. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Cooper. She fought a long and brave battle with cancer and is sadly missed by her sister, Cecilia and her two brothers, Joseph and Richard.
Dolores had an interesting and varied career. She started out as a chemist, then became a high school teacher and next a college instructor. During this time, she continued her education and acquired her PhD degree and then a degree in law. She became a practicing attorney and then a judge with her law office in Colfax.
Dolores was very generous. Often she worked with people who needed her help, but had little money to pay. She would charge just pennies on the dollar and sometimes not charge at all. Dolores was a great animal lover and always had dogs and cats as pets. If a stray ever came her way, she always found room in her heart and home for it.
She loved the West, especially Colfax, but she will be returning to Cleveland, her hometown. There will be a small family memorial service and then she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jack in a beautiful, little wooded cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made in memory of Dolores to the American Cancer Society, the Humane Society or just keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Bruning Funeral Home, Colfax, WA is caring for the family. [1]
