Biography

Eardley Hortin was born in the Colony of Tasmania (1856-1900)

Eardley was born in 1877, the son of Frederick Hortin and Esther Beard. [1]

In 1910, Eardley Mac Babington Hortin married Harriet Evans.[2] Wedding Notice: HORTIN—ERWIN.—On the 9th February, at "Hillsley," Blyth-street, Brunswick, by the Rev. Mr. Sharp, Eardley M., third eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Hortin, of Hobart, Tasmania, to Harriet, widow of the late E. Erwin, of Callawadda, Victoria, and eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Evans, of Wirchilleba.[3]

In 1915, Eardley Mac Babington Hortin married Ada Fanny Ellis.[4] Wedding Article: HORTIN—ELLIS. Last Tuesday afternoon (April 27) a very quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Paul's Church, Bendigo, by Dean MacCullagh, when Miss Ada Fanny Ellis, daughter of Mr., and Mrs. W. C. Ellis, of "Wairwera", Mitchell street, Bendigo, was married to Mr. Eardley Hortin, third son, of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Hortin of Hobart, Tasmania. The bride was given away by her father, and was very prettily frocked in ivory satin and wore the usual wreath and veil; she carried a beautiful bridal shower bouquet of white azalias and roses. The bridesmaids were her sister, Miss B. Ellis, in white silk, and Miss B. Wicks, of Melbourne, who wore white crepe dechine. They carried bouquets of exquisite shades of brown chrysanthemums. autumn leaves and cream roses from Miss Fell, and their wedding presents were pearl and aquamarine necklets. The groomsmen were Mr. Smith and Mr. J. Ellis. After the ceremony a wedding breakfast was held at the bride's home, only a few intimate friends being invited to the wedding reception. The bride and bridegroom left by the evening train. Mrs Hortin travelling in a navy blue coat and skirt, with black panne velvet hat. Mr. W. C. Ellis was for some years foreman at the Kyneton goods sheds.[5]

He passed away in 1950, aged 72.[6]
