Family stories of Houghton’s
One thing Aunt Jewell (2007 Aunt Jewell is Julia Houghton Chriestenson......granddaughter to Alda and Harrington Houghton lived in Overland Park, Ks and was 83 but believed still pretty healthy...although had the normal problems associated with one of that age. She knew tons of family stuff...is full of stories...giggles a lot, and is a very sweet lady. She was very sharp and loved genealogy. She lived with her daughter, Linda) did tell me (schriesten) was that Alda had a sister named Catherine and a brother named John. According to some of the census reports I looked at, John and Hannah Antrim had a daughter named Catherine and a son named John Wesley. Aunt Jewell said that John the son...lived in the basement of the courthouse in Colby, Kansas and she remembers visiting him there. On the 1930 Colby, Ks. census, John W. Antrim is listed as a janitor at the courthouse same birth year as the John Wesley Antrim I have found with John and Hannah Antrim. 27 Aug 2007, Dad had called Jewell a couple of days earlier and had talked with her for about an hour. She didn't have much info about the Modlin’s but they did talk about the Houghtons. The following was one of the stories that Dad remembered from one of his stays with Grandma Nickerson.

Aunt Jewell’s story:
Alda's real first name was Indiana. It was Indiana Alda Candace Antrim. She did not know the first husband's name other than it was Modlin. She did know Silas and thought his wife's name was Amanda. Said he was a barber. Also, Silas's brother...who she called Jack (this would be Arthur Jackson)...fell from an elevator in Quinlin, Oklahoma and was crippled...on crutches. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona and never married. Also, Aunt Jewell remembers staying with Grandma Nickerson (Alda) at the same time that Mary June and James were there. She also remembered Sam Modlin and thought he lived in Kansas City.

James’ Stories Of Uncle John Houghton 27 Aug 2007
When James was young, the Kansas City smoke [coal] filled air was causing serious lung problems so he went to Grandma Nickerson's (Antrim-Modlin-Houghton-Nickerson) several times. During one of those stays Grandma Nickerson allowed him to go and stay with Uncle John Houghton Sr. Uncle John was a WW I Vet who was one of many disabled Vets by “Mustard Gas”. John's son John Jr nicknamed 'Sunny' was a WW II Vet.

Story
Just before Sunny went to war he had traded the Model T for a Model A. Uncle John was not happy with the A so he would use a two horse team and wagon to carry the milk to town ?Quinlan?. Self note; It probably did mater whether it was Model T or a Model A because Uncle John was not going to be happy with any automobile. Uncle John's farm house (James does not remember an Aunt) did not have Electricity or a Water Well. They had to use the horse drawn wagon to go to the stream and use 1 gal buckets to fill 55 gal drums. Uncle John's radio was powered by an auto generator mounted on an outside pole and used a big fan to spin the generator.

Uncle John was a "Share Cropper", but he owned a small strip of land that was planted in Oats. James remembers the 'Head Cropper' used a 4 horse team to push it. To turn left the horses had to turn right because they were pushing. In the late 1960s James and I went to west Oklahoma to hunt Turkeys. James remembers stopping to visit Sunny who, at that time, was working in an Auto Parts Shop.
