Biography
William Hoult was born in Derbyshire, England.
Henry was born in 1833. His parents were Joseph and Sarah Holt. He was christened on 22 December 1833 at Staveley, Derbyshire.[1]
In 1851 Henry lived at Staveley, Derbyshire with his parents and sibling. His father was a miner.[2]
Henry married Emma Fletcher nee Turner, on 14 February 1854 at Rotherham Minster, Rotherham, Yorkshire. Emma's age on the marriage record is 25 and she is a widow. Henry, is 21 and a bachelor. Both live at Rotherham. Emma's father is James Turner, grinder, and Henry's father is Joseph Hoult, waterman. Witnesses are Josiah Witnery and Amelia Whitney. [3]
In 1861 they lived at Stubbin, Hoyland Nether, Yorkshire. Henry appears on this census as Ralph H Holt, a coal miner living with his wife Emma. They had three children, Ann (6), William (4), and Betsy (2). Living with them were two of Emma's children from her previous marriage, Tom Fletcher (15) and a coal miner, and Sarah Fletcher (9). They also had a boarder, Marrice Towley, from Ireland. [4]
By 1871 the family had moved to 8 Ashton Row, Allerton Bywater, Tadcaster, Yorkshire. On this census he appears as William H Holt. He is still a coal miner. Living with them is their son, William, and daughter, Betsy. Also with them is their daughter Ann and her husband John Parker and their son Peter (3m). [5]
The 1881 census finds them still living at the Village of Allerton Bywater, Tadcaster, Yorkshire. Living with Henry and Emma is their son William and his wife Phoebe. Polly Parker, their 7 year old granddaughter is also there. [6]
Emma passed away 1883, age 55.[7]
William Henry Hoult married Harriet Fieldhouse in 1884 at Pontefract, Yorkshire[8]
In 1891 they lived at Ashtons Houses, Allerton Bywater. Tadcaster, Yorkshire with Harriet's son and daughter from her earlier marriage.[9]
William passed away in 1892, age 59.[10]
