Biography

John was born in 1842. He passed away in 1932 at the age of 90, still living on the farm in Downie township of Perth County, Ontario, Canada. His dates of birth and death are on the death record from Perth County, Ontario. The informant was a son, but the scrawl is too difficult to decipher. ^[1]

John was the son of Dennis and Margaret Hourigan. Unfortunately, his mother's maiden name is indecipherable on the death certificate.

Oddly, John's birth year was consistently 1846 or 47 in his early censuses in Canada in 1861 (age given as 14) and 1871 (age given as 24). Usually early ages are more accurate. ^{[2] [3]} These early censuses show him with parents Dennis and Margaret Hourigan. John also had a brother, Martin, who was 2 years younger than he was.

By the time he was married, his census age produced a birth year of 1844 or 45. ^[4]

The later censuses in 1901 and 1911 given his age as 59 and 69 respectively, both which are consistent with a birth year of 1842. ^[5]

John and Elizabeth are buried in Saint Marys Cemetery, St. Marys, Ontario, Canada. ^[6]

• Thomas Joseph Hourigan was born on 19 Apr 1892, son of John Hourigan and Elizabeth Kearney. He was baptized on 21 May 1892 at Holy Name of Mary, St. Marys, Perth county, Ontario, Canada.^[10] He was married in Stratford, Ontario to Agnes Conway in 1923.^[11]
